What is VR therapy?

VR therapy uses immersive virtual reality environments to deliver evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Instead of imagining a scenario, you experience it in a safe, controlled virtual space – making it easier to practise coping skills, process difficult experiences, or gradually face fears. Our solutions are grounded in established approaches including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Is VR therapy safe?

Yes. Our solutions are developed alongside clinical professionals and tested through peer-reviewed research. In our EMDR VR clinical trial, zero adverse effects were reported across all participants. Users are always in control and can pause or stop a session at any time. Some people may experience mild motion discomfort when first using VR – this typically passes quickly.

Who is it for?

Our tools are designed for a range of people and settings. WaveVR helps anyone dealing with everyday stress, emotional regulation, or low mood – it's been used in schools, workplaces, and NHS services. EMDR VR is for people with phobias, trauma, or PTSD. InnerVoice supports people in addiction recovery. We work with schools, NHS services, therapy clinics, local authorities, and wellbeing programmes.

Does VR therapy replace a therapist?

No – our tools are designed to complement professional care, not replace it. VR therapy can extend the reach of existing services, provide additional practice between sessions, or offer support in settings where access to specialists is limited. For clinical applications like EMDR VR, we recommend use within a supervised care pathway.

Products & technology

What VR headset do I need?

Our solutions are built for standalone VR headsets – wireless, portable devices that don't require a PC. If your organisation doesn't have headsets, we offer service packages that include fully managed VR headsets so you can get started without sourcing your own hardware.

How long is a typical session?

A WaveVR session typically lasts 10 – 15 minutes, making it easy to fit into a school lesson or workplace break. EMDR VR sessions run for around 30 – 45 minutes, delivered over a programme of roughly five sessions.

Can users self-administer VR therapy?

It depends on the product. WaveVR is designed for self-guided use – users navigate the experience independently after a brief introduction. EMDR VR has been clinically validated as a self-administered treatment within a supervised programme. InnerVoice includes an AI companion that guides the user through each session.

How do we get started?

The best first step is to get in touch. We'll arrange an initial conversation to understand your needs, followed by a demo if appropriate. From there we can discuss a pilot, licensing, or a tailored deployment plan.

Do you provide training?

Yes. We provide onboarding and training for staff who will be facilitating VR sessions. This covers headset setup, running sessions, supporting participants, and any safeguarding considerations. Training is included as part of our deployment packages.

What does a pilot look like?

A typical pilot runs over 4 – 8 weeks with a small group of participants. We provide the VR headsets, software, training, and support throughout. At the end we share a summary of outcomes and feedback to help you decide on next steps. Pilots can be tailored to your setting – we've run them in schools, NHS services, and local authority programmes.

How does RestoryVR approach the use of AI?

We believe AI can play a valuable role in supporting mental health and wellbeing – when used responsibly. Our approach is to develop AI features alongside clinical professionals, with a focus on transparency, user choice, and ethical practice. We aim to be thoughtful about where AI adds genuine value and where human judgement should lead.

Will I know when AI is being used?

Yes. We are committed to clearly communicating when and how AI is used in our products. Users should understand what role AI plays in their experience so they can make informed decisions about their care.

Can I opt out of AI features?

We design our products with user choice in mind. Where AI features are included, we aim to provide options for users to engage with or without them. The specifics depend on the product, and we're happy to discuss this in more detail.

Does AI replace clinical judgement in your products?

AI in our products is designed to support the therapeutic process, not to make clinical decisions. Our solutions are developed with input from clinical professionals, and we see AI as a tool that works alongside human expertise rather than replacing it.
