WaveVR at FutureFest 2026 – 95% of young people felt calmer after a session
We were invited to bring WaveVR to FutureFest 2026, an interactive event for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) organised by SEND IASS North Northants at the Corby Cube. The event celebrated possibilities for young people aged 13 and over, with hands-on activities exploring pathways in education, employment, health, and independent living.
Participants experienced a guided WaveVR mindfulness session and completed a short feedback questionnaire afterwards. The results were overwhelmingly positive.
Key findings (n = 20)
- 95% enjoyed the VR session
- 95% reported feeling calmer afterwards, with 75% selecting the highest level (“a lot more calm”)
- 80% said they would use what they learned to help stay calm
- 95% would like to do it again
- 89% would recommend the experience to a friend
- Zero negative responses across all questions
- Zero adverse effects reported
The age range of participants was 13 to 20, with a mean age of 16.
What participants said
Feedback highlighted the calming nature of the experience and the appeal of the underwater environment:
It was peaceful, calm.
It was more calm and help relaxed more. It makes your brain focus.
I liked seeing all the animals.
It was very great 10/10, would go again.
I loved it all.
I wish I had a VR.
Building on previous results
These findings are consistent with earlier WaveVR pilot programmes in schools and NHS youth services, which showed 86% of participants feeling better after a session and 95% enjoyment rates. The FutureFest data adds further evidence that WaveVR is well received by young people in informal community settings as well as structured programmes.
We’re grateful to SEND IASS North Northants for the invitation and to all the young people who took part and shared their feedback.
